Ko Aarts' work is not limited to one subject or style. Silent buildings and geometric factories alternate with organic mountain landscapes or the roar of soaring aircraft. He paints buildings, very everyday, that can turn into an abstract pattern at any moment. Rows of uniform windows, bright stripes, large surfaces. Things in our society, he says, can just as easily turn into their opposites. We live in a dynamic reality, the everyday is complex enough. During his stay in Brazil, more and more living elements appeared in his work, such as plants, animals and people. The artist strives to find a balance between severity and irony in his work.
