This version of the Tulip table comes from the first owner, who purchased it in 1980 from the high-end German furniture house Pesch Wohnen, along with a set of six original Knoll Tulip chairs.
The table is built around an original Knoll base and combined with an extendable wooden top that was supplied by this furniture house at the time. As such, it is not a standard catalog version, but a carefully assembled variant of the kind often offered in the high-end segment in the early 1980s, where customisation and design complemented each other. The flowing, central base supports the design with its characteristic calm and balance, while the top – manufactured in Baden-Württemberg – adds an extra functional dimension. In its closed form, the table remains compact and clean in its lines; extended to 190 cm, it opens up to a more spacious setting that naturally lends itself to use. Features a Knoll engraving under the base. In very good original vintage condition, with signs of use consistent with its age.
It is precisely this combination of an original design base with a practical extension that gives the piece its own character. A less conventional version that not only highlights the design itself but also provides insight into how design was assembled and sold during that period.
