Klaus van de Locht was born in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the son of architect-contractor Andreas van de Locht and Therese Koch. He did not call himself German or Dutch, but Nederrijner.[2] He studied theology in Münster and Munich for three years, but like his younger brother Peter (1946), he chose art. He then studied at the Werkkunstschule in Wuppertal, as a student of Peter Schäfer and Rudolf Schoofs.[3] After graduating, he lived in London for two years. In 1975 he settled in Nijmegen, where Peter had already moved. Van de Locht made assemblages with objets trouvés, gouaches, lithographs, serigraphs and images, and his work was inspired by eroticism, landscapes, labyrinths and mythology. His most famous work is the water labyrinth on the Waalkade in Nijmegen.[4] Like his brother, he also made one of the barrier posts in the center of the city. Van de Locht took part in several exhibitions. Van de Locht suffered from MS from 1989, he died at the age of 60 from the consequences.[5] A number of friends set up a foundation for the management of his leftover work.[6]
