Klaas Gubbels (Rotterdam, 1934) is one of the most iconic Dutch artists of his generation. He is particularly known for his still lifes of coffee pots, jugs, and tables. Over the years, his work has become increasingly stylized and objectified. Gubbels works with various techniques and materials, including woodcut, glass, cardboard, assemblage, and metal.
Since 1963, he was affiliated with the Gemeenschap Beeldende Kunstenaars (GBK). His oeuvre ranges from monumental murals and Sculptures to intimate prints. Gubbels has lived and worked in Arnhem his entire life.
Gubbels is considered among the artists who focus on everyday subjects, pure form, and painting itself. His work shows thematic and design kinship with both Dutch greats and international masters, including Jan Schoonhoven, Carel Visser, Armando, and Philip Akkerman.
