Each kilim is expertly hand-woven in Egypt to create a beautiful work of art. Kelima is an Egyptian handmade kilim brand brought to you by S&M Trading with the goal of bringing the beauty of Eastern culture to the West. Our Kilim rugs are hand-woven from wool, making them durable and naturally resistant to dirt and spills. They are carefully crafted by the best artisans in Egypt with great care and precision. The patterns and motifs woven into each piece have meaning to traditional weavers, representing protection, good fortune, fertility, etc. They are unique items perfect for decoration and use at home or office. We work directly with small workshops, rather than large producers. Each workshop is run by a head craftsman and is paid for what they produce. In this way we try to contribute to the recovery of those weavers, compared to the early 2000s, the number of kilim weavers has dropped dramatically due to the turmoil in the tourism industry because a large part of the weavers' livelihood depended on tourism. We manufacture our kilims in Al Haraneyah, a small village near the great pyramids of Giza. Decades ago Al Haraneyah was home to many kilim weaving workshops, accordingly highly skilled Egyptian workers who have inherited the age-old skills of their ancestors make these unique handmade kilims.
