Kelima is an Egyptian handmade kilim brand that aims to bring the beauty of Eastern culture to the West.
Our kilim rugs are hand-woven from wool, making them durable and naturally resistant to dirt and spills. They are carefully crafted by the best artisans in Egypt with great care and precision. The patterns and motifs woven into each piece hold significance for traditional weavers, representing protection, good fortune, fertility, etc. These are unique items perfect for decoration and use at home or in the office.
We work directly with small workshops, rather than with large manufacturers. Each workshop is led by a master craftsman and is paid for what they produce. In this way, we try to contribute to the recovery of these weavers; compared to the early 2000s, the number of kilim weavers has dropped drastically due to turmoil in the tourism industry, as a large part of the weavers' livelihoods depended on tourism.
We manufacture our kilims in Al Haraneyah, a small village near the Great Pyramids of Giza. Decades ago, Al Haraneyah was home to many kilim weaving studios; accordingly, highly skilled Egyptian workers, who have inherited the centuries-old skills of their ancestors, create these unique handmade kilims.
