Keith Haring (May 4, 1958, Pennsylvania – February 16, 1990, New York) was an American artist. His father was a draftsman and primarily drew comic strips. He was an important source of inspiration for Keith. Keith Haring's artworks belong to modern art. This art movement is also known as graffiti art or Pop Art. Haring mainly drew abstract figures (both people and animals) in a variety of colors. He usually worked in New York, but also spent a year working in Amsterdam. Keith Haring believed that art should be for everyone, not just for wealthy people. Therefore, he began making chalk drawings in subway stations, in the middle of the street, etc. His work could be seen everywhere. This made him very popular. Naturally, this caused his works to become more expensive, meaning not everyone could afford them anymore. Keith Haring did not only create paintings. There are also sculptures to be found that clearly show they are his works. He sometimes painted the bodies of people with all kinds of abstract figures. He died from complications of AIDS.
