Product description
This exceptional and rare monkey sculpture is made of patinated and partially polished bronze, attributed to the renowned Danish craftsman and designer Kay Bojesen. Dating from the 1950s, this piece represents an unreleased and unique bronze version of the iconic wooden monkey originally designed by Bojesen during this same period. This piece may have been an alternative project by the designer, a commemorative commission, or a personal project by a skilled contemporary follower.
The figure is crafted with articulated arms and legs, characteristic of Bojesen's playful, movable designs. The dark, textured patina of the bronze contrasts with the polished, worn brass-toned areas on the face, hands, and feet, highlighting the sculpture's expressive form and age. At the base, a small red felt pad is attached to protect surfaces. This rare object, measuring approximately 8x8x8 cm, captures the playful espíritu of Danish Mid-Century Modern design in an uncommon, heavy material.
With its compact proportions and historical intrigue, this piece serves as a distinctive decorative object for a desk, bookshelf, or curated collectors' display. It offers a unique opportunity for enthusiasts of Mid-Century Scandinavian design, art toys, or rare bronze metalwork to acquire an unusual variation of a 20th-century design icon.
