Antique Mother-of-Pearl and Gilt Brass Opera Glasses – Iris Paris – Circa 1900 – Fully Functional
Description:
Authentic and elegant pair of theater binoculars (or opera glasses) from the famous French house Iris Paris, dating from the late 19th / early 20th century (Belle Époque, circa 1900).
This refined display and collector's item consists of a fine gilt brass structure and a superb genuine mother-of-pearl casing with iridescent reflections, also including the central mother-of-pearl focusing wheel.
Condition of the item:
• Optics: Fully functional. The internal lenses are relatively clean and transparent, offering a clear and sharp view without major opacity. The central wheel turns perfectly to adjust the focus. Very old item with defects, internal dust. Possible dents. And a slight ovalization of the left front bezel.
• Aesthetics: Deliberately preserved 'as is' and in their original patina to maintain the full authenticity of the historical object. The mother-of-pearl is magnificent. The workshop markings, notably the inscription 'IRIS PARIS' engraved around the black eyepiece as well as the hallmark stamped on the upper brass bridge, are perfectly visible and authenticate the piece.
• Accessory: Sold with their period protective pouch made of black satin fabric lined with red. Ideal for protecting the item.
