About this seller
Private sellerProduct description
This side table is a design by the German architect and designer Richard Riemerschmid, a key figure of Art Nouveau. The piece embodies the principles of the movement, which sought a departure from historical styles and a turn towards nature-inspired, functional forms. The characteristic three-legged construction and the organically shaped tabletop are typical of Riemerschmid's work from this era.
The table is made of solid wood and features a distinctive triangular top supported by three curved legs that unite in the center to form a stable structure. This construction is not only aesthetically pleasing but also an example of the rational and material-appropriate solutions that Riemerschmid promoted as co-founder of the Vereinigten Werkstätten für Kunst im Handwerk in Munich. The piece of furniture has been painted in a light, neutral gray tone that emphasizes its sculptural form.
The overall condition of the table is good and appropriate for its long history. It shows a patina and signs of wear that underline its authentic character. The structure is solid and stable, testifying to the high quality of the original craftsmanship. The existing paint finish is not original but has been renewed over time, which can be seen in the pictures.
With its compact form and timeless design, this side table is excellent as a functional addition next to an armchair or sofa, as a telephone table in a hallway, or as an elegant plant console. It blends seamlessly into both classic and modern interiors and adds a subtle, art-historical accent.
