These sofas had also long been used in the Royal Lounge of a large airport and were therefore ordered by numerous dignitaries. The Catshuis was also furnished with this monument from the work of Josef Hoffmann and the Wiener Werkstatte. The current new price of this beautiful sofa, produced by Wittmann in Austria (perhaps the best furniture maker in the world) is € 14,300.= (still available new)
Palais Stoclet was built between 1905 and 1911. Hoffmann did the decoration with several members of the Wiener Werkstätte he founded. The main objective of the Wiener Werkstätte was the integration of arts and crafts. With the Stoclet Palace, a Gesamtkunstwerk of architecture, interior design, decoration and landscaping was created. Hoffmann and his associates were not bound by financial limits and could use the most exclusive materials (marble, gilded metal, very fine leather). The banker's son Stoclet, who had met Hoffmann in Vienna in 1902, moved into the villa with his wife. The Palais Stoclet sofa in the villa was the most striking part of the furnishings.
Sofas like this (but often in lesser condition) are offered on US sites such as 1stDibs for many thousands of dollars.
Condition of this sofa is exceptionally good, limited patina and light signs of wear that correspond to the age and use of the furniture.
Sofa can be seen in Nunspeet on the Veluwe, only serious candidates.
Now offered for only 10% of the new price, symbolic but fixed price, sofa can easily last another 100 years! Possibly for sale with two matching armchairs in perfect condition.
