Description
Large and powerful work by the Dutch artist Johan van Warneveld. The painting depicts a serene nocturnal landscape with two houses on the edge of a dark forest. The composition is dominated by deep black and grey tones, from which the contours of the buildings subtly emerge.
The use of mixed media creates a layered surface with a strong atmospheric effect. The work balances between figuration and abstraction and evokes a sense of silence and mystery.
The dark areas and texture in the canvas give the work an almost photographic quality, while the paint treatment and structure remain distinctly painterly.
