Jean Prouvé — Curtain Wall Stiffener Section, Aluminum and Rubber, CIMT 1962
Jean Prouvé is recognized as the pioneer of the curtain wall in architecture. The stiffener is its key component: it vertically connects the levels of a building and, depending on the system, supports insulating panels, glazing, operable windows, vents, or doors.
The section offered (18 cm) comes from a university building in Lyon, completed in 1962. It retains its original rubber seals. This is the most refined version of his stiffeners, with its characteristic T-shaped profile.
A similar element was donated by Jean Prouvé's family to the archives of the Centre Pompidou.
