Product description
A substantial dining table designed by Jean Batenburg for MI, Belgium, circa 1969. Crafted from dark stained oak, the table is characterized by Batenburg's strong architectural approach, featuring an understated rectangular frame, broad ends, and a long, low crossbeam connecting the legs. The rich grain of the oak remains visible through the deep finish, creating a warm contrast with the nearly black surface. Four discreet drawers are integrated beneath the tabletop, two on each side, making the table accessible and usable from both sides. The traditional dovetail joints in the drawers attest to the high level of craftsmanship. The table has retained a particularly attractive original patina, where natural wear along the edges reveals the warmer oak underneath and emphasizes the construction. A strong example of Belgian modernist furniture from the late 1960s, combining functional design with the robust, geometric character typical of Batenburg's work for MI. DxHxL: 75x75x210 cm. The dark finish shows wear and damage on the edges and corners, revealing the oak underneath. The tabletop has superficial scratches, small stains, and light dents, which contribute to the original patina and character. Part of a complete Jean Batenburg dining set, including matching chairs, sideboard, and bar cabinet, which will also be for sale.
