This red earthenware tripod serving set is an emblematic piece by Jean Austruy (1910-2012), a central figure in the revival of French ceramics. Settling in Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie in 1943, Austruy made his mark on the post-war period with his modernist forms and his exploration of textures, actively participating in the golden age of the Vallauris potters.
The piece features three bowls connected by an intertwined helical handle, a technical feat perfectly preserved here. The piece is distinguished by its frothy, white-grey glaze with an "orange peel" effect, the transparency of which reveals the terracotta beneath. This technique creates very attractive pink and ochre hues in the incised geometric motifs (chevrons and cupules).
