Oil painting on canvas, by Javier Vilato.
The painting is both signed and dated with a on the back of the canvas, like a short paragraph with three lines (see photos):
"Javier Vilato
au fleur grand
Periode Bleue 56"
Although Vilato was mostly known for his artwork as a cubist, like his uncle, Pablo Picasso, with whom he spent a great deal of time, and who's influence is evident in his artwork, it is possible this lovely piece, may have been painted as an "homage" or "tribute", to his uncle's "Blue Period."
The painting itself, is in overall, very good, original and vintage condition, with some light marks, signs of age and previous use commensurate with time, as well as a patina of time, on the overall piece, canvas, frame and back of the frame (see photos.) The oil paint, its texture and various shades of blue colors, warmed by other colors, have truly maintained a beautiful patina of time, which are lovely in contrast with the darker lines of the figure in the painting, as well as the frame (see photos.)
All photos taken in natural light, so colors may vary based upon brightness, angles and perspective in which they are viewed.
