An exquisite Japanese uchikake 打ち掛け (wedding kimono), offered in New Old Stock condition.
This formal bridal uchikake is crafted from fine silk and richly decorated with embroidered pheasants, plum blossoms and all kinds of flowers. The vivid, saturated colours give the garment a striking visual presence. The interior is lined with vibrant vermillion silk, while the thickly padded hem, traditionally weighted with cotton, allows the uchikake to drape gracefully when worn or displayed.
The kimono is in very good condition and has never been worn or used. White cotton protection still on corners of the hem, can be easily removed. Please refer to the photos for a clear condition reference.

Uchikake are highly formal kimono, traditionally worn by brides over the wedding kimono and obi, functioning almost as an outer robe. They are also used in classical stage performances. Bridal uchikake are typically either white or richly coloured, often with red as a dominant tone.
In Japan, the crane, “tsuru” is one of the mystical or holy creatures and symbolizes good fortune and longevity because of its fabled lifespan of a thousand years. Tsuru are also known for being faithful monogamous, making it a popular wedding design.
