Product description
The Myojin Torii 057 is a handcrafted Japanese wooden torii gate for gardens, entrances, and special locations. It embodies the softer, more flowing form of the classic Japanese shrine gate. A characteristic feature is the gently curved roof beam, which gives the torii a lively and almost floating appearance. In contrast to strictly straight lines, this torii feels inviting and organic. It marks a transition without rigidity and creates a serene moment of arrival. With an overall height of approximately 248 cm, a clear passage height of around 205 cm, an overall width of approximately 238 cm, and a clear opening of about 130 cm, the proportions are deliberately balanced. The torii is tall enough for a generous passage and yet compact enough for private gardens and architecturally sensitive areas. The harmonious balance of height and width ensures presence without being overpowering. The Myojin Torii 057 is entirely handcrafted in our workshop in Germany. All wooden components are made of solid, carefully selected wood and are precisely crafted, finely sanded, primed, and finished with multiple coats of lacquer. We typically use larch or Douglas fir, two proven and durable woods for outdoor use, known for their stable structure and subtle grain. Upon request, we can also manufacture the torii from other wood types, such as oak, Accoya, or Bongossi, especially if it is intended for installation near water. The design follows classic torii principles. The torii is self-supporting; the anchoring serves solely to prevent tipping. The standard finish is traditional Japanese red with black accents. Alternatively, gray, anthracite, black, or custom colors are available. The multi-layered lacquer provides lasting protection against weathering, UV radiation, and moisture, resulting in a smooth, silky surface. The torii is delivered ready for assembly. Depending on the location, the torii gate can be anchored using H-beams in a concrete foundation, bolted to foundation slabs, or, indoors, using appropriate plinth solutions. Its structural integrity is maintained throughout. A Myojin Torii gate doesn't appear monumental, but rather connects. It doesn't divide, but guides through. The gentle curve of the roof beam directs the gaze, slows the pace, and creates a moment of mindfulness. Thus, a passageway becomes a conscious transition. For over 20 years, we at Asia Art Factory TORII WERK have been crafting Japanese torii gates with meticulous precision and cultural understanding. We support our clients from the initial concept to installation and, upon request, also offer assistance with foundations and assembly. Our torii gates can be found in gardens, parks, hotels, and at cultural events throughout Europe. Each torii gate is individually crafted and not mass-produced.
