This is a refined Japanese tea bowl, crafted from high-quality ceramic. The object distinguishes itself through its asymmetrical design and detailed, hand-painted floral motifs that reflect the rich tradition of Japanese tea culture.
The bowl is executed in a subtle palette of beige, green, blue, and gold, creating a harmonious and organic whole. The exterior is richly decorated with leaf and flower patterns, while the interior features a calm, speckled beige finish. Okumura Kozo
Okumura Kozo is a ceramic artist from Kyoto (Kyo-yaki / Kiyomizu ware) who was primarily active during the late Showa to early Heisei period (circa 1970s–1990s). He is known for creating hand-painted ceramics with colored enamel and gold accents, a style characteristic of modern Kyoto decorative ceramics. Okumura often used natural motifs such as hydrangeas, plum blossoms, and foliage, applying rich glazes and gold lines to create a vibrant and elegant surface. His works are usually signed with “考造 (Kozo)” and a red seal “考”, and many pieces come in a signed wooden box (tomobako), indicating that they are studio work rather than mass production.
His ceramics are appreciated for their refined Kyoto-style aesthetic, which combines traditional Japanese motifs with contemporary color expression. Although he did not mass-produce, Okumura represents the lineage of individual Kyoto artists who continued the decorative Kyo-yaki tradition into the end of the 20th century.
