Product description
This traditional Japanese Tansu chest of drawers, produced circa 1890, exemplifies the functional elegance of late nineteenth-century Asian cabinetry. Designed originally for mobile storage, the piece features a robust, rectilinear silhouette defined by its deep, rich colourway and authentic period hardware.
Constructed from solid wood, the chest is configured with four spacious, full-width drawers that offer substantial storage capacity. The exterior is finished in a deep brown tone, accented by patinated metal corner brackets, traditional drawer pulls, and heavy-duty side carrying handles that reflect its historical purpose. The craftsmanship highlights traditional joinery techniques characteristic of the era, ensuring structural integrity while maintaining a minimalist aesthetic.
The chest remains in good, fully functional condition, preserving the authentic character of its age. The wood displays a rich, historic patina, while the metal hardware exhibits a natural oxidation that enhances its antique appeal. The interior of the drawers remains clean and structurally sound, ready for contemporary use.
This historic Tansu chest serves as a striking focal point in both minimalist and eclectic interiors. It pairs exceptionally well with organic modern decor, offering a sophisticated storage solution for a bedroom, living area, or hallway while introducing a profound sense of history to the space.
