Product description
This Japanese Tansu chest of drawers, dating to circa 1870, is a striking example of traditional East Asian cabinetry. The piece is defined by its robust wooden construction and the distinctive iron hardware that characterises the Tansu form, making it a highly desirable storage solution for collectors of antique furniture. Crafted from wood with a rich, dark brown finish, the chest features multiple drawers of varying sizes, designed for practical organisation. The iron hardware, including the drawer pulls, corner brackets, and circular lock plates, adds a utilitarian yet decorative element to the design. The back of the chest reveals remnants of old Japanese newspaper, providing a fascinating glimpse into its history and provenance. The chest is in good condition, showing wear consistent with its age and historical use. The wood exhibits a deep patina, and the iron hardware retains its original character, contributing to the authentic appeal of this 19th-century piece. This Tansu chest would make a compelling focal point in a living room, bedroom, or hallway. Its blend of rustic charm and historical significance pairs exceptionally well with both traditional and eclectic interior styles, offering a unique conversation piece with practical storage capabilities.
