Product description
This Japanese Tansu chest of drawers, produced circa 1870, exemplifies the traditional craftsmanship of the Meiji period. The piece is defined by its robust wooden construction and distinctive iron hardware, which served both functional and decorative purposes in historical Japanese cabinetry.
Constructed from solid wood, the chest features a warm, natural finish that highlights the grain of the timber. The design incorporates multiple drawers of varying sizes, secured with circular iron lock plates and fitted with classic bail handles. The corners and edges are reinforced with iron brackets, a hallmark of authentic Tansu design intended to protect the piece during transport. The rich brown tones of the wood contrast beautifully with the dark metal accents.
The chest remains in good condition, reflecting its age and historical use. The wood displays a natural patina, and the iron hardware retains its original character, contributing to the authentic vintage appeal of the piece.
This Tansu chest serves as a striking storage solution that brings a sense of history and global design to contemporary interiors. It pairs exceptionally well with rustic, bohemian, or eclectic decor, offering both practical utility and a compelling visual narrative.
