Product description
This Japanese Tansu chest of drawers, dating to circa 1870, is a striking example of traditional East Asian craftsmanship. Characterised by its robust wooden construction and intricate iron hardware, this piece exemplifies the functional elegance inherent in 19th-century Japanese design.
Constructed from solid wood, the chest features a warm brown finish that highlights the natural grain of the timber. It is equipped with multiple drawers of varying sizes, each fitted with substantial iron handles and decorative lock plates. The metalwork, including the corner reinforcements and side carrying handles, not only provides structural integrity but also adds a distinct visual contrast to the wood. The piece originates from Japan and reflects the utilitarian yet refined aesthetic of the era.
The chest remains in good condition, displaying a characterful patina consistent with its age and historical use. The original finish and hardware have been preserved, maintaining the authenticity and structural soundness of the piece.
This Tansu chest serves as a versatile storage solution that brings a touch of historical depth to contemporary interiors. It pairs exceptionally well with rustic, eclectic, or minimalist decors, offering both practical utility and a compelling focal point in a living room, bedroom, or hallway.
