Antique Japanese Bronze Buddha – Circa 1900 – With Traces of Original Gilding Dimensions: Height: 56 cm Width: 51 cm Weight: 19.4 kg This impressive Japanese bronze Buddha from approximately 1900 exudes tranquility, simplicity, and timeless spirituality. The statue is depicted in a classic meditative posture (Dhyana Mudra) and was originally fully gilded. Due to over a century of natural wear, authentic remnants of this original gilding are still visible in various places, giving the statue an exceptional character. Its monumental size and weight of almost twenty kilograms underscore the quality of its traditional casting. The serene facial expression, the richly modeled hair curls (Rahotsu), and the flowing drapery folds are characteristic of Japanese Buddha statues from the late Meiji period. Original Gilding Microscopic examination has revealed clear traces of the original gilding in several protected areas. These are located deep within protected zones of the surface where wear has been minimal. The gilding remnants are interwoven with the natural corrosion layers and provide compelling evidence of the statue's historical finish.
