About This Design
The Jan Van Geem Waar Blijven Ze? is an original, hand-signed color linocut by the Dutch painter and graphic artist Jan Van Geem (Spaarndam, 1919–1995), an Art object from the category Original Graphics. Van Geem was associated for many years with the Haarlem artists' association Kunst Zij Ons Doel (Kzod) in De Waag, and his work is included in the National Collection and the Frans Hals Museum. The print shows three female figures in ocher and gold tones with red accents against a deep black background, and is titled in pencil, numbered 2/8 and signed, dated '74.
This Jan Van Geem Waar Blijven Ze? is printed on paper in a small edition of only eight copies and is characterized by its contrasting figurative design with fine contour lines. The work is framed behind glass in a plain wooden frame with white passe-partout and black decorative border, making it immediately ready for display. On the reverse side are original collection labels from the Service for Dispersed National Collections and the Service for the State's Dispersed Art Objects in The Hague, as well as a sticker from the BZK Art Collection — The work originates from the Dutch National Collection (Inv. 6002, Collection Haarlem ’74).
