A great Dutch master artist, who unfortunately only lived to be 31 years old. His entire oeuvre, created between 1907 and 1918, comprises approximately 150 paintings, mostly in small formats, about 100 drawings, and over 40 sheets of prints, mainly etchings and woodcuts.
Jan Mankes entered art history as "Holland's most serene painter". He died young of tuberculosis, something that contributed to the myth-making surrounding his artistry.
