The photos were taken by the late Dennis Stock, commissioned by Life Magazine, during a trip with James Dean to his birthplace, Fairmont, Indiana, and to New York City. A selection of Stock's photos was published in Life Magazine in March 1955, in an article titled *Moody New Star*.
The portfolio contains the iconic image of James Dean walking through Times Square in New York City in the rain.
