Product description
Jacques Villon (1875–1963) — Toulouse-Lautrec Museum, Albi, 1955 — Original Lithographic Poster — Mourlot — 70 × 51 cm Original lithographic poster created for the Jacques Villon exhibition presented at the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum in Albi, from April 3 to 30, 1955. This vintage poster reproduces a cubist composition dated 1954, characteristic of Jacques Villon's research on the construction of space, the fragmentation of forms, and the relationships between color and geometry. Large surfaces of blue, green, yellow, and red are organized around oblique lines and superimposed planes. The whole forms an image that is both structured and vibrant, where depth arises from the dialogue between forms and colors. Jacques Villon, born Gaston Duchamp, belongs to a particularly important family in the history of modern art. Brother of Marcel Duchamp and Raymond Duchamp-Villon, he nevertheless developed a personal language, at the crossroads of Cubism, painting, and printmaking. Printed by the famous Mourlot workshop, this poster testifies to the institutional recognition of his work in the 1950s. The signature and date « 54 » visible in the composition are reproduced in the printed image: it is not a handwritten signature on the poster.
