Product description
Iridescent Austrian Loetz glass vase, with a flower-shaped opening and colors from violet to beetle, made in the 1940s. Ø 18 cm h 11 cm. Loetz glass production began with Johan Loetz ( ) in the 18th century through the acquisition of the Klostermühle glassworks. In the second half of the 19th century, his grandson oversaw the modernization of the glassworks, introducing new processing techniques with the assistance of inventor Eduard Prochaska: this led to new creations with glass imitating semi-precious stones, veins, and the Intarsio decoration, which during production involves hot coils or colored glass pellets. Finally, at the end of the 19th century, the first glass iridescences with metallic reflections began to be created, culminating in the creation of Phänomen glass with applications and inserts of partially metallized glass filaments, similar to Tiffany glass and the famous Papillon glass, in numerous variations and color combinations, characterized by a decoration consisting of iridescent dots or plates. This new discovery sparked the creation of numerous other iridescent glasses, each characterized by a particular luster or shade of color. Throughout the history of the glassworks, there have been numerous collaborations with glass technicians, artists, and designers, who shaped various models and color treatments. Unfortunately, the vast majority of Loetz products are unsigned. Some pieces intended for export are normally signed when requested by the client. Rare piece, in excellent condition.
