Material: Stoneware Period: Late 20th century Country of origin: China Good condition according to its age and use Dimensions: 42.5 x 19.5 x 19.5 cm Base diameter: 7 cm Exotic Chinese jar made of high-fired stoneware. It has a robust body and traditional shape: a domed belly on a narrow base, a short neck and a fitted lid with an acorn knob on a hemispherical base. The piece is completely glazed in dark brown and beige, with a glossy finish that reveals subtle chromatic variations resulting from firing. The front surface of the jar features a calligraphic inscription in Chinese, executed in negative relief directly on the clay in a gold tone. Although the inscription has not yet been translated, it could be a workshop signature, a verse or a good luck phrase, as is common in the Chinese ceramic tradition. Despite its simplicity, this piece stands out for its aesthetic strength: the contrast between the restrained form, the lustrous finish, and the golden inscription creates a very elegant compositional balance.
