Product description
Ink Drawing 2021 Beautiful original work by Jan Henderikse (born 1937): the longest-living Zero artist in the Netherlands. Jan recently created this beautiful series of drawings in his New York studio. The work is deeply framed and has special glass (70% UV-resistant and virtually glare-free). Signed and dated by the artist. He became known primarily for assemblages made from waste and 'rejects' and as a member of the Nul movement, although his work closely resembles Pop Art. With his aesthetic of the banal, he quickly earned the nickname "king of trash." His work is regularly exhibited in major museums in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. Together with Armando, Jan Schoonhoven, and Henk Peeters, Henderikse formed the Dutch Nul movement in 1960. Jan Henderikse was the one of this group who worked with industrial products, distinct waste, and discarded materials, using them to create assemblages. He is not a man of the theory of Nul, but of doing and making; Henderikse saw himself as the artist with the lowest 'Nul content'. Central to the work of the Nul group of artists was the emphasis on the impersonal in art, the objective. This included avoiding personal handwriting and seeking manufacturing procedures with an external regularity and order, comparable to the production process within factories and businesses. This was reflected in the use of materials, highly unusual for the art of the time, such as pennies and corks (Henderikse), cotton wool and feathers (Peeters), cardboard (Schoonhoven), and bolts and barbed wire (Armando). Good to know! This item is not in our showroom in Utrecht, but can be found at the Whoppah Warehouse in Venlo. Would you like to view it? Of course you can!
