The painter Auguste de Roisin studied at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Brussels and was a pupil of Henri Ottevaere and Van Damme Sylva.
He can be considered an Impressionist, but having developed a technique all his own.
His favorite subjects are natural landscapes, whose light he studied in a lifelong quest; this led him to travel to many countries such as Sweden, Lapland, North and South America, Argentina, Uruguay, Africa, Morocco, French Congo. But above all his travels, it was the light of Brazil that undoubtedly inspired him the most; the optimistic vibrations of South America find a very particular echo in his art.
Brabant and Dutch landscapes and their no less complex colors did not leave him indifferent: the village of Giethoorn and its canal in the foliage, winter landscapes in Brabant or the apple trees in bloom in Linkebeek are the best examples of perfect technical mastery at the service of emotion, whatever the differences in theme. He also painted portraits, especially - many - of women.
