A sculptural Danish Modern rocking chair designed by Illum Wikkelsø and manufactured by Niels Eilersen in Denmark during the 1960s. This distinctive Mid-Century Modern design combines an elegant high spindle back with dramatically curved armrests and long sculpted rockers. The organic lines and refined proportions are characteristic of Wikkelsø’s approach to Danish furniture design, balancing visual lightness, craftsmanship and functionality. Constructed from elm wood, beech wood and plywood, the chair displays a warm natural grain and attractive tonal variations throughout. Its sweeping armrests and tapered structural elements create a particularly expressive profile from every angle. The rocking chair has been carefully refurbished while retaining minor signs of age and use appropriate to an authentic vintage piece. An excellent example of postwar Scandinavian design and a highly decorative statement chair suitable for both contemporary and Mid-Century Modern interiors.
