Johann Othmar Doebeli (* November 1, 1874 in Menziken; † January 29, 1922 in Zofingen) was a Swiss painter. Today, Othmar Doebeli appears as a classic example of a small-town artist from the turn of the last century. Doebeli is a painter characterized by realism, whose landscapes and portraits are both contemplative and nostalgically transfigured. Doebeli is also regarded as an "ethnographer" of his former homeland. His favorite motifs included forest and tree areas with their play of light and shadow. His summer paintings often show chickens; his winter paintings frequently depict ravens in the snow and darker-toned components in the style of Munich realism. Doebeli eventually found access to the independent Swiss artists' association Secession and exhibited at the Zurich Kunsthaus and several art galleries in Zofingen, among others.
