About this seller
Private sellerProduct description
Offered is a set of four 40/4 chairs, designed by American designer David Rowland for the Danish manufacturer Howe. This iconic design from 1964 is globally recognized for its functionality and minimalist aesthetic. The 40/4 chair gets its name from the ability to stack forty chairs to a height of only four feet, a revolutionary concept that made it a classic in design history.
The chairs are made with a black plastic seat and backrest, supported by a slender sled base frame of chrome-plated steel. The design combines durability with a lightweight construction, making the chairs versatile. The ergonomically shaped seat and slightly flexible backrest offer comfort for long-term use, a feature that has made the design popular in both residential and commercial environments.
This set is in good, used condition, consistent with the age and functional character of the chairs. The original structure and finish have been preserved, contributing to the authentic character of the set. The chairs are a testament to timeless design and are included in the permanent collections of various museums, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
Thanks to their clean lines and neutral color scheme, these chairs seamlessly fit into various interior styles, from Mid-Century Modern to minimalist and industrial. They are ideal as Dining chairs, extra seating in a living room, or as functional chairs in a home office or meeting room.
