This tapestry, "Homage to Samarkand," by Jürgen Schöbel for Södahl Design, is a characteristic textile artwork from the 1960s. The piece captures the aesthetic of Mid-Century Modern through its stylized, architectural depiction reminiscent of the historic Silk Road city. Made from 100% jute, the wall hanging features a warm color palette of browns, oranges, and golds typical of Danish design of this era. The coarsely woven material lends the motif a distinct texture and depth. Made in Denmark, it underscores the Scandinavian origins of this decorative object, which hangs from an integrated wooden rail. The tapestry is in good vintage condition, commensurate with its age. The colors have retained their intensity, and the structure of the jute weave is intact, demonstrating the longevity of Södahl productions. This textile artwork will blend seamlessly into Mid-Century or Bohemian-style interiors. It offers an excellent way to add warmth, color and a touch of vintage character to large wall surfaces in living or working spaces.
