Product description
Rare antique Holophane ceiling light in prismatic glass, circa 1930, in the Art Deco/modernist style. This elegant light fixture consists of a molded Holophane prismatic glass dome mounted on a striking circular metal frame with intricate decoration. The glass features the characteristic network of fine prismatic ribs typical of Holophane products, originally designed to refract, diffuse, and distribute light evenly. The Holophane mark is visible on the glass (see accompanying photograph). The beautifully crafted frame consists of a circular base with finely detailed decoration and three decorative fixing screws, each approximately 2 cm in diameter, which secure the dome in place. The overall aesthetic is highly representative of industrial and modernist lighting fixtures from the interwar period. Comparative research links this type of ceiling light to French Holophane products from the 1920s and 1930s: models from this period are documented in Holophane catalogs and in French Art Deco lighting furniture. The shape and dimensions of the dome are also consistent with several French examples preserved or offered on the specialist market. Dating: circa 1930, glass attributed to Holophane. The metal frame is presented as contemporary with the glass, without a confirmed manufacturer's attribution. Dimensions Base diameter: 24 cm Glass dome diameter: 20 cm Decorative screw diameter: 2 cm Total height of the assembled light: 9 cm Condition Exceptional/perfect condition. Glass intact, without cracks, chips, or missing pieces. The frame is also in very good condition. A particularly clean piece for a light fixture of this period. About Holophane Holophane is one of the great historical names in prismatic lighting. The prismatic glass technology developed at the end of the 19th century enabled the manufacture of diffusers intended primarily for public and industrial buildings, as well as modern architecture. Holophane's French production was notably developed in Les Andelys. This type of glass is particularly sought after today for its optical qualities, its industrial aesthetic, and its successful integration into Art Deco, modernist, or contemporary interiors. A rare and decorative piece, particularly interesting for a collector of antique lighting, Holophane glassware, or Art Deco design.
