Product description
Van Vessem received his education from 1959 to 1962 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam. Van Vessem lives and works in Rotterdam.
Van Vessem had his first exhibition in 1968 at De Doelen in Rotterdam. He was a co-initiator of several institutions. For example, in 1973 he co-founded the Stichting Open Kunst, which aims to facilitate workshops and courses for professional artists, and in 1978, with several others, he founded Grafisch Atelier Rijnmond. Throughout the rest of his career, Van Vessem was involved in many initiatives, such as Wendrich Art Editions, De Lijn, and a graphic workshop Orion for people with intellectual disabilities. In 1983, Van Vessem participated in Art Basel. He has traveled to and temporarily resided in, among other places, France, New York, India, and Spain.
Exhibitions and awards:
Van Vessem's work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally. In 1999, he had a retrospective exhibition at Museum Jan van der Togt in Amstelveen, where he received the order of knighthood at the opening.
