Litho - Papier - Hashiguchi Goyo (1881-1921) - Graphite on Paper Sketch 1 from the series "Collection of Sketches of Beauties" - Japan – 1976
Artist: Hashiguchi Goyo (1880-1921)
Title: Graphite on Paper Sketch 1
Series: "Collection of Sketches of Beauties"
Published by Sanseido in April 1976
At the request of Goyo's heirs, publisher Sanseido produced a limited commemorative issue (an edition of 500 copies) in 1976 of 25 sketches from his famous sketchbook.
Hashiguchi Goyo is one of the most famous Japanese woodblock-print artists of the 20th century. Goyo only lived to be 41 and his output is very limited (11 "bijin-ga", 4 landscapes, 1 "kacho-e").
Because of his premature death, Goyo left behind a great volume of unfinished work, including a sketchbook with 25 sketches of "Beauties" (1918–1921).
The very fine printing process used here is mostly likely lithographic. Each sketch is printed on high-quality museum-art paper. Very detailed, of the same size and identical to Goyo's original graphite sketches, including the "scribbles'.
The sketch is in very good condition. An exact copy of the original, in all its details.
