The timeless Opala model was designed in 1975 by the Danish designer Hans Wegner and marketed by the manufacturer Louis Poulsen. Initially the design was intended for a hotel in Copenhagen, but the lamp soon made its debut on the broader market. In addition to the hanging lamp , Hans Wegner designed a standing version of the Opala.
The hanging lamps show an interplay of materials; the top cover is made of aluminum, while the white cover is made of plastic. On this specific copy there is minor damage to the top cover in the form of some scratches and dents. This aspect is reflected in the lower price for the lamp. It is worth mentioning that the damage is barely visible once the lamp is hanging.
