At a time when homemade preserves held a prominent place in French kitchens, every condiment had its dedicated container. Pickles were no exception. This stoneware pot, crafted in Vallauris and still bearing the inscription "Cornichons" (Pickles), immediately evokes those country buffets where jars, terrines, and ceramic pots accompanied everyday meals. Made from glazed stoneware in delicately speckled sand-beige tones, it possesses the warmth and simplicity that earned Vallauris workshops their reputation in the mid-20th century. Its small side compartment is an ingenious feature: it allows drained pickles to be placed during the meal, without mixing the brine with the rest of the contents. Height approximately 17 cm. Beneath the base is the marking "Vallauris – Fait Main" (Handmade), testifying to artisanal craftsmanship from this town, which, after World War II, became one of France's major ceramics centers. While Vallauris is famous for hosting Picasso, dozens of workshops also produced high-quality utilitarian ceramics there, which are now highly sought after for their authenticity and timeless charm. Very good state of preservation, with its original lid. Lovely usage patina consistent with its age.
