Zillo Kelim 2127
Origin: Yazd, a historic city in Iran, known for its textile and carpet tradition.
Technique: Zillo is hand-knotted or hand-woven (depending on the design) using a special double weave technique that makes it reversible.
Material: Usually made from cotton or a blend of cotton and wool - making it light, hard-wearing and suitable for warm climates.
Function: Traditionally used as a floor covering, tapestry or prayer rug.
Colors: Natural colors such as indigo blue, red, brown, beige and green are typical.
Motifs: Geometric patterns, stylized plant ornaments, medallions and borders - often with a symbolic character.
Special feature: As Zillo carpets are usually made using the flat weave technique, the patterns have a clear, almost graphic effect.
