Hand-knotted Saruq rug 302x201 No:426 A Sarough rug (or Saruq rug) is a high-quality hand-knotted Persian rug that originates from the Sarough (also spelled Saruq or Saruk) region in western Iran. This region is known for its traditional carpet weaving skills and the production of durable, artistic carpets with a high wool content. Characteristics of a Sarough rug: Material: Sarough rugs are usually made from high-quality new wool, often with a cotton backing. The wool gives the rug a soft, shiny surface. Some variants have silk elements for special accents. Colors: Classic colors are shades of red, blue and cream. The so-called "American Sarough red", an intense, warm shade of red that became popular for export to America in the 1920s and 1930s, is particularly well-known.
