CRAFTSMANSHIP AND DETAILS This exceptionally large sculpture is crafted in the classic Burmese Mandalay style and hand-carved from a solid piece of hardwood. The robe features a beautifully decorated embossed border, inlaid with sparkling glass and mirror pieces. The finish, with a traditional deep red lacquer base on which gold leaf has been applied, creates a fascinating visual spectacle. Over the years, the gilding on the raised areas has beautifully worn, allowing the warm red base to shine through. CONDITION AND PROVENANCE Given its monumental size, the statue is in excellent vintage condition with an honest and lived-in patina. Some minor signs of age and drying cracks in the wood are visible, which is typical for solid hardwood of this age and proves the authenticity of the piece.
