Product description
Etching by Hadewijch Ouwendijk From 1999, small edition of 2/10, frame dimensions 53x62 cm Hadewijch Ouwendijk is a Dutch artist. Hadewijch completed her artistic education in 1974 at the Royal Academy in The Hague, Department of Graphics/Free Painting. She has been active as an independent visual artist since 1980. As of January 1, 2020, she is a member of Galerie De Ploegh in Amersfoort and the Artists' Association ArtiShock in Rijswijk. Her most important work consists of color etchings and paintings that have been exhibited in various galleries. She has executed numerous commissions, such as series of etchings for the municipalities of Dronten, Alphen aan de Rijn, and Rijswijk, and murals, including for the Rabo Bank Dronten. In 1997, she created a large mural for the Municipality of Amersfoort with a group of schoolchildren: the Brouwerstunnel project. Ten years later, in 2007, a new commission came in for this: restoration and refreshing of the original drawings, and expansion with a new section because the tunnel had been extended. She contributed to the production of art books and catalogues for companies and produced the millennium print for the municipality of Rijswijk. In 2013, she participated in the project “033-Leegstand in Amersfoort,” the thematic exhibition for the preservation of the Rietveld Pavilion. In 2015, in collaboration with the ISVW and the VVV, she realized the Philosophers' Path. For this, she created 8 etchings of 8 heads of philosophers, 4 of which are located on the grounds of the ISVW and 4 in Den Treek. She works on various commissions for private individuals and companies. She worked for 20 years in the studio at Muurhuizen 100 in Amersfoort and participated from the very beginning in the then very well-attended Art Viewing Route. After finding a replacement studio in the countryside near Maarsbergen for a period of 8 months starting in November 2018 (the building at Muurhuizen 100 is practically on the verge of collapse), she has been working in her studio at the (entrance Torenstraat) in Amersfoort since June 1, 2019. The work of Hadewijch She is strongly inspired by vivid images from her immediate surroundings. Striking impressions and a lively, earthy external world are often colored by a poetic emotional world. In her earliest graphic work, this finds expression in her transparent landscapes. In addition to the often dreamy etchings created by experimenting with the various variations and nuances offered by the etching technique, she paints directly with a palette knife and oil paint on canvas.
