In designing this sculpture, I took my inspiration from the growth process of minerals. Like the "Bismuth," it grows from a central point step by step. The growth process in most people's lives is similar. Each stage is significant and supports the next step toward our goals.

Maurice van Kooten is a versatile artist. After spending part of his youth in New Zealand, he returned to Amsterdam to study at the Rietveld Academy and the Academy of Fine Arts. He exhibits regularly with stone sculptures, ceramics and tempera paintings.
