Founded in 1898 in Staffordshire, at the heart of the Five Towns that brought fame to English ceramics, Myott, Son & Co. was among the most exported manufacturers of its generation. Its productions in Fine Ironstone — a fine earthenware with a dense and resistant body — were distributed throughout Europe, the United States, and Canada. British and American collectors actively seek them out. The Melody pattern displays on the ivory white earthenware a frieze of floral medallions in deep cobalt blue, with precisely drawn roses and foliage, alternating with fields of interlocking scales in the same intense blue. A frieze of scrolling foliage runs along the upper rim. The pattern is underglaze printed, a process that guarantees the permanence of the colours against detergents and acids. The fluted body, tapered spout, bridge handle, and annular foot compose a classic and confident silhouette. The stand is integrated, in one piece with the gravy boat. Length: approximately 20 cm. Width: approximately 13 cm. Height: approximately 9 cm. Blue stamp Myott – Fine Ironstone – England – Melody – 1982 on the underside of the piece. Slight signs of use inside, with no impact on its presentation.
