Le Retour, by Jean-Louis Dhuit known as KESTA, born in 1936, 2008 Oil on hardboard panel 115 × 79.5 cm Large reclining nude, in a generous horizontal format, painted on panel and not on canvas. The young woman is captured three-quarters, leaning against a sea-green drapery, legs extended to the right, head turned in profile. Light hair treated in mass, turquoise pearl necklace and bracelet, matching earring. The flesh is constructed with broad planes, without idealization: belly, breasts, knee, body weight on the yellow drapery. At her feet, a small sleeping dog, red collar. To the left, a red curtain with gold braid isolates the silhouette; to the right, a deep blue sky, crossed with red, bears a pale disc where a dove hovers. The pose is reminiscent of an odalisque and a theater set. Oil signature at the bottom right: ". Kesta.08. ". Small triangular mark at the bottom left. The title, inscribed by the artist's hand on the reverse, names the motif: the return, the dove, rest. On the reverse, autograph inscription on the plywood of the stretcher: "J.L.DHUIT dit "KESTA" Huile s/Isorel. 115 x 79.5 2008. "LE RETOUR"." The Artist A former student of École Boulle and Arts Décoratifs, Jean-Louis Dhuit pursued a career as a chief set designer at ORTF from 1960 (variety shows, Guy Lux, Richard Anthony...). Later settled in Etagnon, near Ambert (Puy-de-Dôme), he developed a personal body of work under the name Kesta: geometric and optical abstraction, gestural series ("Pomp'Art" with the bicycle pump), allegorical figuration, landscapes, and nudes. Regular exhibitions in the Livradois (Ambert, Marsac-en-Livradois). This 2008 oil painting belongs to his figurative vein: a nude with character, rich texture and clear construction, on a rigid studio support. Condition Good overall condition of the painting. Very simple white plastic strip frame, made by the artist: it only serves to finish the piece. Panel mounted on a wooden stretcher with central crossbar, hanging wire in place. Ready to hang.
