Product description
This is an authentic plateel jug, manufactured by Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland in Gouda. The piece is a representative example of Dutch earthenware from the Art Nouveau period, characterized by its organic forms and stylized decorations. The jug features a lively floral motif, a hallmark of the Gouda plateel style that gained international recognition.
19 cm high by 12.50 cm wide.
The jug is made of ceramic and is hand-painted with a decor of multicolored flowers on a light-colored, crazed background. The colors include shades of yellow, orange, purple, and green, accented by a contrasting turquoise handle and interior. The underside is marked with 'Gouda', 'Z. Holland', the factory's house logo, and the model and decor numbers, confirming its origin and authenticity.
The overall condition of the jug is good, consistent with its age. The crazing in the glaze is a characteristic and often intentional effect in this type of earthenware, contributing to its historical appearance. The piece is free from major damage such as cracks or significant chips, and the colors are still vibrant.
