Stacking 'barrister's bookcase' in oak and glass dating from about 1920, in the spirit of or by Globe-Wernicke (no label present). Consists of 5 stacking units, a plinth and a hood. From 1899 the Globe-Wernicke company, based in Cincinnati US, established factories in the US, UK, Canada, France and Germany for the manufacture of high-end extensible bookcases. The separate units made the bookcase easily transportable without removing the books when a barrister was travelling on circuit with a judge.
